Historical Note

AMITA or Association of MIT Alumnae (earlier term is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Women's Association). MITWA changed its name to the Association of MIT Alumnae (AMITA) in 1964. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Women's Association (MITWA) was founded in 1899.

Abstract

The Margaret MacVicar Memorial AMITA (Association of MIT Alumnae) Oral History Project began in 1990 with the purpose of documenting life histories of women who graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The collection comprises interviews of women who graduated in 1922 and later. Interviews have been conducted by students working in MIT’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).

Scope and Contents of the Collection This collection contains correspondence, bylaws, annual reports, minutes of meetings, directories and records that document the administration and activities of the Association of MIT Alumnae (AMITA).
