MIT DIC 6889. Project Whirlwind Memo 6M-3107. A high-speed core driver has been developed. The circuit consists of two pulse amplifiers, a slave flip-flop, a buffer amplifier (which has very rapid rise and fall times), and a current amplifier (Fig. 1). The rise and fall times of the output current pulse are approximately 0.05 microsecond. The current pulse output is negative (as in the Mod V core driver) and its amplitude exceeds 1.5 amps (Fig. 8).

Since the memory-core-procurement program is on a development basis, but has an inflexible time schedule, modifications of the specifications can be expected.

An evaluation of organizations best equipped to undertake the program is the first step. Microwave line-broadening experiments will be undertaken to study polycrystalline samples from the MgO•MnO•Fe[subscript 2]O[subscript 3] system.

These include anisotropy, exchange coefficient, and relaxation frequency. Measurements can be made most directly with single-crystal ferrites. These measurements are necessary to verify the analysis of the switching mechanism in square-loop ferrites. They are also measurements of primary importance to Group 37.

During the first day, at Poughkeepsie, the specifications for selection of cores for the WWI bank-B memory and the second MTC memory were reviewed. Project Whirlwind Memo M-2449. A Joint MIT-IBM Core Measurement Committee will coordinate core measurement activity at MIT, IBM (High Street and Plant 2), general Ceramics, and RCA Victor. The round robin completed September 24 to calibrate measurement equipment at all test sites will be repeated at the end of October. To provide a frequent check on measurement techniques at the different sites, measure cores will be sent to MIT for verification.
