Abstract

This collection contains personal records and historical materials of Shirley A. Jackson from her tenure as Commissioner (May 2, 1995 to June 30, 1995) and Chairman (July 1, 1995 to June 30, 1999) of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. There are also two speeches in the collection that date prior to her tenure with NRC from MIT events. The collection contains correspondence, trip files, plant, utilities and vendor files as well as subject files and speeches.

Scope and Contents of the Collection Records of the chair, Henry Kendall, and executive directors, Howard Ris and Eric Van Loon, include project files and correspondence about the founding, early history, and organizing activities of the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS). There are extensive files reflecting UCS's concern for nuclear reactor safety, including reports from the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and other documentation of UCS participation in AEC hearings (1972-1973) to consider the Emerging Core Cooling System...
