Biographical Note

Winston Roscoe Markey, 1929-2014, is a professor emeritus of aeronautics and astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Markey was educated at MIT, where he earned an SB, 1951, and ScD, 1956, in aeronautical engineering. In the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics Markey was a teaching Assistant, 1953; instructor, 1954 to 1956; faculty, 1957 to 1999; and professor emeritus starting in 2000. Markey also was involved with the Instrumentation Laboratory starting in 1956 and served as director of the Experimental Astronomy Laboratory from 1961 to 1982. His research interests included automatic control systems and automatic geometric measurements.
