Biography

Joanne S. Miller, 1935-2002, was a member of the staff at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Miller was born in Chelsea, Michigan on September 6, 1935. She attended the University of Michigan and Pasadena City College before joining the staff of MIT in September 1957 as a clerk-typist in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Two months later, she became the secretary at Kresge Auditorium, selling tickets and maintaining records.

Miller joined the Office of Public Relations (later the News Office) as a secretary in 1964. In July 1965, she was promoted to editor of Tech Talk. She retired in 1996. Following retirement, Miller became active with the Association of MIT Retirees. She died on August 25, 2002.
