Abstract The recombinant DNA oral history project was begun at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1975, shortly after the Asilomar Conference, an international conference of molecular biologists held in Pacific Grove, California, to assess the risks involved in recombinant DNA research and establish research guidelines.
