Biographical Note
Eric Cosman, 1942-2017, was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on May 9, 1942. He was raised and attended school in Arlington, Massachusetts, until 1959, when he entered MIT as a freshman. Cosman received an SB in Mathematics in 1963 and a PhD in Physics in 1966. He was an instructor in the Department of Physics from 1966 to 1967 and was appointed assistant professor in 1967.He became a full professor in 1977. Cosman taught the freshman physics course (8.01) at MIT for several years. His research specialty was low-energy nuclear spectroscopy which he pursued within the Laboratory for Nuclear Science at MIT. Cosman also held visiting staff appointments at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg, Germany, and the University of Bergen, Norway.
