Biographical Note

Turkish architect and designer born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1959, died in New York, New York, 2016. He attended the Universitaet Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany from 1978-1983, earning his Engineer Diploma. He earned his Master of Science in Architecture Studies degree, 1983-1986, from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 1993 he established the design office Parallel Design. As well as being a practicing architect, designer, and interior designer, he taught at many architecture, art, and design colleges and universities over the course of his career. He received recognition through many awards, and was included in or was the subject of articles in numerous publications. His work was included in many exhibitions and is in the collections of several prominent institutions.

Abstract

The Ali Tayar Archive covers many of the works of the late architect and designer Ali Tayar. Present in the collection are records concerning works of architecture, interior design, and furniture/product design. Also included are works from design competitions, special projects, publicity materials, ephemera, and photographic materials.
