Biographical Note

Margaret Zarudny Freeman, 1908-2008, was a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She earned an SM in 1934 — the first woman to earn a master's degree in Mathematics at MIT. Freeman was a professor of Russian in the Department of Modern Languages from 1932 to 1974. From 1958 to 1974, she was also director of the Language Laboratory. Freman was also a member of the faculty in Aeronautical Engineering from 1940 to 1941. She was granted emerita status upon her retirement in 1974.
