Abstract
Louis Menand became assistant to the provost at the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology in 1968 with the responsibility to supervise several programs, including the
MIT student-operated tutoring program at Rindge Technical School in Cambridge, Mass., and
the Upward Bound program. He chaired the Law-Related Studies Committee and served on the
Interdisciplinary Environmental Council. He also worked on university-community relations.
