Scope and Contents of the Collection
The collection contains correspondence, reports, and memoranda about department programs, curriculum, internships, conferences, and research opportunities especially for the Master in City Planning program; promotion and tenure files; budgets; grant proposals; financial planning and assistance to students; annual and affirmative action reports; files related to department personnel matters. Also included are records prepared for department visiting committees.
There are six hand drawn drawings of Scolley Square, Boston, given to the archives by Urban Studies department head Gary Hack in 1989. Drawings are housed in boxes 27, 28, and 29. The interpretive drawings were done in 1952 by department faculty Frederick J. Adams, Roland B. Greeley, Burnham Kelly, and Lloyd Rodwin prior to the urban renewal and razing of Scolley Square to build Boston's Government Center. One drawing is signed "Arthur", possibly Arthur Comey, a visiting lecturer.
The collection also includes archived versions of the Department of Urban Studies and Planning and Community Innovators Lab websites dating from 2017 through the present.
