Biographical Note
Rudiger Dornbush, 1942-2002, was a professor of economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for 27 years. He received a PhD in economics at the University of Chicago in 1971. He became an associate professor in the Department of Economics at MIT in 1975, professor of economics in 1978, and Ford International Professor of Economics in 1984.
He is known for developing the ‘overshooting model’, which is a macroeconomic theory explaining high levels of exchange rate volatility. During his career at MIT, he was a dissertation adviser to more than 125 doctoral students. (1)
In 2001, he was named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Economic Association where he had previously served as vice president. He was a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and of the Econometric Society. (2)
