Scope and Contents of the Collection
The records are arranged into two series. Series I contains primarily the records of Susan Nutter, although some earlier records are included as well. The records in Series I date from 1969-1988. Series II contains the records of Carol Fleishauer, 1988-2006.
Records received in 1987, box 1, 1977 1982, contain information on CAP, the Collection Analysis Project.
Records received in 1988, box 2, 1974 1985, contain correspondence and memoranda on library funding, policies, and personnel. Also included is the 1974 Ad Hoc Study Committee on Microforms report.
Records received in 1989, boxes 3 5, 1977 1986, contain correspondence with and surveys done for the Association of Research Libraries and the Boston Library Consortium on preservation projects and serials reviews. Also included are correspondence and planning documents on the Libraries budget, collection development activities, and the implementation of the GEAC online computer system for bibliographic records.
Records also received in 1989, boxes 6 7, 1969 1986, contain information about collection statistics, the cataloging of monographic materials, and the implementation of the GEAC computer system in the libraries.
Records received in 1992, box 8, 1982 1988, contain reports, minutes, and working papers of the Libraries' committees including the Automation Planning Committee, 1985 1987; Duplicate Serials Cancellation Project, 1982 1983; GEAC Faxon Task Force, 1984 1986; and the Implementation Coordinating Group, 1984 1987. Also includes Libraries collections statistics, 1985 1988, and reports and memoranda of the Title II C project, 1985 1987.
Records in Series 2, box 10 to are the records of Jennifer Banks, Head of Collection Management Services.

In 1980 the position of assistant director for collection management in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Libraries was created, combining responsibility for collection development with administrative responsibility for technical processing and acquisition. In 1983 the position was renamed assistant director for collection management and technical services; in 1985, associate director for collection management and technical services; and in 1991, associate director for collections services. Susan K. Nutter was assistant and then associate director from 1981 to 1987, and Carol J. Fleishauer was associate director 1988 2006.
