Scope and Contents

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology archived websites collection consists of web-based content that is on the mit.edu domain and created by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology administration, departments, labs, and centers as well as websites related to activities of, by, or at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but are not the websites of official MIT departments, labs, or centers nor the administration. These archived websites are those that do not already fit into an existing archival collection and do not have enough material to justify creating one at this point. When Distinctive Collections receives additional material from these groups and/or in these categories, they will receive their own collection and the related archived websites will be transferred there. This collection covers sites captured from 2016 to the present day and was created in 2019 in order to provide better access to these resources. The archived websites in this collection are as they were available (to the best of our capture technology's ability) on the date of their capture. More detailed scope and content notes are available in the description of each individual site.

Abstract

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology archived websites collection consists of web-based content that is on the mit.edu domain and created by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology administration, departments, labs, and centers as well as websites related to activities of, by, or at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but are not the websites of official MIT departments, labs, or centers nor the administration. These archived websites are those that do not already fit into an existing archival collection and do not have enough material to justify creating one at this point. Administrative resources, or websites of groups involved with administrative functions of MIT such as governance and managing daily operations, 3. Academic programs, or the websites of various academic department, labs, and centers, 4. Borderline Mural Art Project,or websites about the on-campus art project from 2017 5. Other websites, or websites that do not fit the other general categories.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Websites captured using the Archive-It web-crawling suite using either their heretrix of brozzler crawlers from 2016 onwards. Captures set up by Kari Smith, Jessica Venlet, and Joe Carrano.
