Scope and Contents of the Collection

This collection contains administrative files from the Rotch Library of Architecture and Planning, dating from circa 1965 to 2005. The bulk of the records deal with two major topics: the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture, and renovations to the library building. Other files include annual reports, library usage surveys, circulation statistics, collections policies, fundraising documents and grant proposals, correspondence, committee files, publications of the MIT Libraries, news clippings, library automation reports, bibliographies, and documents dealing with exhibits, workshops, staff development, and the East Asian Architecture Program. Also included are press releases related to Gyorgy Kepes and correspondence with John A. Parker, Gunter Nitschke, Henry Millon, and Rod Freebairn-Smith.

Historical note

The Rotch Library was a divisional library within the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Libraries, serving the School of Architecture and Planning. In 2009 the Libraries as a whole re-organized and the divisional library structure was intergrated into a central functional Libraries system.
