Historical note

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology Women's Independent Living Group, WILG, was founded in 1975 as a residence for women to be managed by its residents with help from a corporation of alumnae. It was first located at 351 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge (Mass.), 1975-1976, and then at 355 Massachusetts Avenue, 1977-present (as of 1994). It remains an all-female house of about 45 members.
