Historical note

The Geological Club at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology was organized on March 1, 1889, to promote among the students an "interest in geological features such as everywhere abound, and to aid in their interpretation." Faculty and students presented papers at the meetings, with occasional lectures by scientists from other institutions or from the National or State Geological Surveys. Both faculty members and students were members of the club.
