Historical note
Sheila Widnall, professor in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics became associate provost at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in January 1992 and was in that position until 1993 when she appointed as Secretary of the Air Force.
As Associate Provost at MIT she had responsibility for academic integrity, including conflict of interest policy, federal relations, faculty retirement, tenure and promotion policies, and international educational programs.
