The Human Resource Practices Development Project officially convened at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in April 1997 following an initial design phase begun in June 1996. The project sponsor was Joan Rice, Vice President for Human Resources. In the project's final report of May 12, 1999 "Working Twars Our Future", a recommendation was made to move human resources at MIT to a competency-based, integrated system of human resource practices.
