Scope and Contents of the Collection

The collection consists of William Baker's student notes from classes he took in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering taught by Charles W. Berry, Harry C. Bradley, Myron W. Dole, Augustus H. Gill, Arthur L. Goodrich, James Robertson Jack, Jeremiah F. O'Neill, Edward J. Salstrom, and Richard Harbert Smith.

Biography

William Avery Baker, 1911-1981, SB in naval architecture and marine engineering, 1934, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was employed by the shipbuilding division of the Bethlehem Steel Company for thirty years. From 1963 to 1981 he was curator of the Francis Russell Hart Nautical Museum at MIT. He was also a part-time lecturer in the MIT Department of Ocean Engineering, 1963-1980.
