Scope and Contents of the Collection
The collection includes Scoville's outgoing correspondence, 1975-1985, as well as his newspaper editorials and unpublished writings on weapons control and U.S. defense policy. His papers also contain extensive reference files, which he used to provide support for his writings, speeches, and congressional testimony relating to arms control. Correspondence and clippings describe his work in arms control with the Pugwash Conferences on Science & World Affairs, the Federation of American Scientists, and other groups. Copies of his numerous editorials, magazine and journal articles, and Congressional testimonies are included, as are copies of his two books, Missile Madness, written with Robert Osborn, and MX: Prescription for Disaster.
The collection contains virtually no documentation of Scoville's government service; this material remains with the appropriate U.S. government agencies.
