Scope and Contents of the Collection
The George C. Newton papers contain correspondence, memoranda, reports, and writings on Newton's research on energy conservation, highway safety, and refrigeration technology. Also includes Newton's notes for courses he taught at yhe Massachusetts Institute of Technology: Simulation Methods for Analysis and Control (6.605), Control System Synthesis (6.606), and Management in Engineering (2.96J/6.930J).

Biography
George Cheney Newton, Jr., 1919-1981, B.S. 1941, Sc.D. in electrical engineering, 1950, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was appointed instructor in electrical engineering in 1947 and full professor in 1964. He was associate director of the Servomechanisms Laboratory (later the Electronic Systems Laboratory), 1952-1973, and executive officer of the Department of Electrical Engineering, 1973-1976. His research focused on feedback control and servomechanisms including applications, components and instrumentation, as well as digital research on the energy aspects of consumer durables and energy utilization in transportation.
