Scope and Contents of the Collection

The collection contains Herman Meissner's correspondence with E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company and the New Jersey Zinc Company on teflon powder pellitizing and the processing of zinc. Also contains research notebooks and reprints of his articles.

Herman Paul Meissner, 1907-1990, S.B. 1929, S.M. 1930, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); D.Sc. 1938, University of Frankfort am Main, was an instructor at MIT in business and engineering administration, 1934-1935, and in chemical engineering, 1938-1940. He was appointed assistant professor of chemical engineering in 1940; associate professor in 1943; and professor in 1951. He was Lammot duPont Professor of Chemical Engineering, 1970-1973, then professor emeritus. His work focused on thermodynamics and industrial chemistry.
