Scope and Contents of the Collection
The collection consists of an audio recording of an interview with Massachusetts Institute of Technology Professor John Harbison on WMBR, the MIT radio station, 9 April 1986. Harbison describes his career and philosophy of music; also includes recorded performances of two of Harbison’s compositions, “Confinement” and Symphony no. 1.

Biography
John Harbison, BA, Harvard University, 1960, MFA, Princeton University, 1963, is Professor of Music at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was named Institute Professor in 1995. Harbison is a composer and conductor who won the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 1987.
