The collection consists of the reports of the committee and appendices with copies of many of the organizations' constitutions, bylaws, organizational charts, and other records.

The collection comprises records of the Committee on the Writing Requirement at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) spanning the years of 1981 to 2002. Records include administrative files regarding "The Commons," Writing Across the Curriculum, undergraduate seminars, the writing requirement, and prizes for writing. Also included are sample writing requirement essays created by students.
